Thorny
This nearly life-sized piece is part of a series exploring thorns and brambles as a metaphor for chronic pain. The artist's studio in rural Oregon is surrounded by invasive bramble bushes and they have been an inspiration for lots of her work. Perhaps you can imagine being stuck in a thicket of thorny vines - every move leading to being stabbed by thorns. Chronic pain is very often worsened with movement, so this metaphor is very effective to explain the feelings associated with being trapped by one's own body.
